Major name seemingly teases title vs. title match with Cody Rhodes after WWE Crown Jewel 2024
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes stood tall in Saudi Arabia as the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion. Recently, former Universal Champion Braun Strowman sent a message to The American Nightmare, seemingly teasing a title vs. title match.
Back in 2018, WWE hosted its first premium live event in Saudi Arabia under the previous regime. Later, the management hosted a 50-man Battle Royal, which Braun Strowman won and for which he received a championship. However, the title was never revived; some claimed it was the original PLE-themed title.
Today, Braun Strowman sent a message following the event in Saudi Arabia. The Monster Among Men stated he did it first and called himself the first-ever and longest-reigning Crown Jewel Champion. Strowman's post could also hint at a title vs. title match with the current champion.
"Don’t forget who did it first!!!! #FirstEverCrownJewelChamp #LongestReignEver," Strowman wrote.
While Braun Strowman previously won a title at the event, it doesn't have the same lineage as the one Cody Rhodes won in Saudi Arabia when he defeated Gunther.
Cody Rhodes and Braun Strowman returned to WWE in the same year
In 2022, the landscape of World Wrestling Entertainment changed forever when Vince McMahon stepped down from his duties, and familiar faces took over. Moreover, the company rehired several old stars for another run on the main roster.
Earlier in the year, Cody Rhodes made a grand return at WrestleMania in Texas and defeated Seth Rollins. Unfortunately, The American Nightmare got injured in the coming months ahead of his third match against The Visionary inside a Hell in a Cell. Rhodes tore his pec just days before his bout.
After Triple H completely took over the creative department, several released and former NXT names appeared on WWE's main roster. One such name was Braun Strowman, who returned to Monday Night RAW after Clash at the Castle 2022 and later joined Friday Night SmackDown. Strowman was released from the company in June 2021.
In 2023, Braun Strowman switched brands and moved to Monday Night RAW. However, he never shared the ring with Cody Rhodes, as he got injured and spent time away from the ring. It'll be interesting to see if the two ever collide in the Stamdord-based promotion.
