Major star who recently wrestled AJ Styles set to have role at SummerSlam
A major non-WWE star has just confirmed his role at this year's SummerSlam. He had recently wrestled AJ Styles outside WWE.
Naomichi Marufuji is a popular name in the Japanese wrestling circuit. He is regarded as one of the best professional wrestlers on the Pro Wrestling NOAH roster. During his time on the roster, he has accomplished so much and established himself as a legend in Japanese wrestling.
As part of WWE's recent partnerships with external promotions, the company sent AJ Styles over to NOAH Destination 2024 where he wrestled the Japanese sensation in an exciting contest. In the end, it was Styles who came out on top. But this reportedly just marks the beginning of WWE's partnership with Pro Wrestling NOAH.
Pro Wrestling NOAH announced on social media that Marufuji will be doing Japanese commentary for ABEMA's PPV broadcast of WWE SummerSlam on August 3 which will actually air on August 4 in Japan due to the time difference.
This isn't the first time that WWE is sharing talent across promotions. For the past couple of months, several talents from the TNA roster like Joe Hendry and Jordynne Grace have shown up in NXT while a couple of NXT stars have also made appearances in TNA.
Naomichi Marufuji confirmed his role for WWE SummerSlam
After Pro Wrestling NOAH announced that Marufuji would be doing commentary for SummerSlam, fans thought that the Japanese star would be in the United States. However, that is not the case, as confirmed by Marufuji himself.
Marufuji took to social media to confirm that he would be a guest commentator but mentioned that he will be doing his duties from Japan.
"It's conveyed differently to overseas fans... (like I'm going to appear at SummerSlam) Please note that I am a guest commentator on the PPV in Japan," Marufuji explained. [Translated from Japanese]

It will be interesting to see if Marufuji will make an appearance on WWE television in the future.
