Major star could turn heel for the first time in years, says ex-WWE talent, ahead of potential title match vs. Cody Rhodes

After defeating Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring tournament, Gunther earned a shot to challenge the World Heavyweight Champion at WWE SummerSlam 2024. Meanwhile, a recently released WWE talent believes it is time for The Viper to turn heel before potentially facing Cody Rhodes at The Biggest Party of the Summer. The name being discussed is Matt Camp.

Orton was a babyface while he was one-half of RK-Bro alongside Matt Riddle. After going on hiatus for over a year due to injury, he returned as a fan-favorite last November at Survivor Series: WarGames. Nevertheless, former WWE host Matt Camp thinks The Viper should embrace his dark side to set up a potential Undisputed WWE Title match against The American Nightmare.

On his The Wrestling Matt Show podcast, Camp claimed it would make the most sense for The Viper to become a villain, pointing out that it would be the best "dynamic" to have a heel Orton versus a babyface Rhodes.

"I'd rather have him just turn. Let's just get this going. It's the best dynamic, heel Randy-babyface Cody. Randy can pull from any of his past in this, from his Legacy days, where he was kinda that psycho and Cody intended his bidding. There's a lot to pull from there when you talk about Randy's career. And him dipping back into being a heel, maybe not one more time, but I think that's where he should go and I think it makes the most sense. Taking on Cody makes SummerSlam bigger," he said. In February 2024, Camp was released from his WWE contract after a three-plus-year stint.

Triple H confirmed Randy Orton was hurt following his WWE King and Queen of the Ring match

Randy Orton's match against Gunther at King and Queen of the Ring ended in controversy since The Viper's shoulder was clearly off the mat as the referee counted to three, awarding The Ring General the victory.

Although he stated that the referee's decision was final and Gunther was the new King of the Ring later during the show, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H acknowledged that Orton deserved a rematch. Meanwhile, The Game disclosed that The Viper was hurt and might not return to in-ring action immediately.

"Having seen Randy back here, he’s pretty banged up, both his knee and his back, I think it's gonna be a moment or two before he is ready to step back into the ring," he said.
