Major WWE star claims "everybody loved" Baron Corbin
A major WWE Superstar shared his thoughts on Baron Corbin's departure from the company and disclosed that the veteran was loved backstage. The Lone Wolf's time in the promotion came to an end last week ahead of WWE Crown Jewel 2024.
In an interview with Metro, Carmelo Hayes discussed the former Money in the Bank winner's exit from the company. The former NXT Champion noted that Corbin helped him during his career and gave him a lot of advice.
"Listen, Baron was one of the people that actually took a liking to me, and took me under his wing. He did so much for me, he helped me so much, he gave me so much advice," said Hayes.
Hayes admitted that Corbin leaving the company "hurt" because they were close, and the former United States Champion was loved backstage.
"That was one of those ones that really kinda hurt, seeing that, because believe it or not, me and Baron were pretty close, pretty tight. Everybody loved Baron!" added Hayes.
Unlike Tegan Nox and Indi Hartwell, Baron Corbin was not released by WWE last week. Instead, the promotion simply elected to not renew his contract, ending his time in the company.
Carmelo Hayes credits Baron Corbin for helping him in WWE NXT
SmackDown star Carmelo Hayes recently credited Baron Corbin for preparing him for the main roster.
Hayes was selected in the first round by SmackDown in this year's WWE Draft. The 30-year-old competed against LA Knight and Andrade in a Triple Threat Match for the United States Championship at Crown Jewel this past Saturday but came up short. In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling earlier this year, Hayes noted that he appreciated Corbin and disclosed that the 40-year-old helped a lot of stars during his time in NXT.
"Actually, I appreciate Baron Corbin a lot. He's one of those guys that, he came in, you know, he took a lot of us younger guys under his wing in a way, and kind of just smartened us up on the game. There is a lot of stuff that we don't know on the other side, that we aren't privy to because we haven't got to experience that yet." [3:04 onwards]
