Major WWE Superstar seemingly turns face for the first time at Bash in Berlin
WWE Bash in Berlin was one of the highest grossing events for the company. When it comes to the events hosted ever since Paul "Triple H" Levesque took over creative, there are two general sentiments.
One is that the quality of the weekly shows and premium live events have vastly improved thanks to great storytelling and consistency. However, most of the time, there is a lack of surprises or shock results.
While Bash in Berlin was no different Saturday night, one particular aspect stood out. After the highly competitive main event in which World Heavyweight Champion Gunther successfully retained his belt against Randy Orton, WWE teased something completely unexpected.
The Ring General was always a dastardly heel in World Wrestling Entertainment, even during his time in NXT. Upon arriving to the main roster, he bulldozed his way through the roster and intentionally made things personal with many of his opponents by attempting to emotionally bring them down.
During the build-up to his bout against Randy Orton at Bash in Berlin, Gunther mocked The Legend Killer by addressing the latter and his wrestling pedigree as a bunch of underachievers. This added some intensity to their feud, which was on display when they battled it out for the World Heavyweight Championship inside the Uber Arena.
In the end, it was The Ring General who prevailed. Post-match, he showed a sign of respect by reaching out his hand to Randy Orton. The Viper accepted, much to the delight of the WWE Universe in attendance.
