Mark Henry names WWE icon he wishes he faced (Exclusive)

Mark Henry worked for WWE between 1996 and 2021. In an exclusive interview, the 2018 Hall of Fame inductee opened up about the match he wishes he could have had against Andre the Giant.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Andre the Giant was one of the most well-known names in the wrestling industry. The Frenchman was billed at seven-foot-four and weighed over 500 pounds. In 1987, he lost to Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania Three in one of WWE's most iconic matches.

Henry made his wrestling debut three years after Andre the Giant passed away in 1993. Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, The World's Strongest Man addressed how a match with Andre might have felt:

"I mean, since it's hypothetical, I would say Andre the Giant," Henry said when asked to name a dream opponent. "The thought of walking to the ring and seeing Andre in the ring or being in the ring and seeing Andre come to the ring, that excites me. It makes me go, 'This is about to be a war.' I wrestled a lot of big guys, [The Great] Khali and Big Show and all the giants. Anybody that was seven feet and a giant, I've touched them, and I would think that it would be even more difficult to be in there with Andre." [6:35 – 7:28]

Mark Henry's dream opponents from today's wrestlers

Six years on, Henry does not think he is physically capable of stepping into the ring for a competitive match again. The 53-year-old did, however, name several current wrestlers he would like to face if he could still wrestle:

"There's so many people I like but my body would not hold up to working with the people that I like watching, the people that I look at and go, 'Wow, they're superior to everybody else,'" Henry said. "The Randy Ortons, the Nic Nemeths, the Finn Balors, the [Konosuke] Takeshitas, Will Ospreays, and Swerve Stricklands of the world. My body wouldn't hold up to trying to work with them." Henry also gave his opinion on why Will Ospreay's AEW booking needs to change based on his recent matches for the company.
