Massive legend won't return to WWE TV for several months due to major reason, says Jonathan Coachman
A massive WWE legend has recently announced his retirement plans, disclosing that he would have one final run as an active competitor in the Stamford-based company next year. While some wondered if that superstar might return before 2024 ends, wrestling veteran Jonathan Coachman believes that could not happen for a significant reason.
The legend in question is none other than John Cena. Cenation Leader appeared at Money in the Bank to announce that he would retire from in-ring competition in 2025. The 47-year-old later clarified that he would have one final run next year before hanging up his boots by the end of December. Speaking on the Behind The Turnbuckle podcast, Coachman addressed the possibility of seeing Cena return before this year ends.
The former Interim RAW General Manager pointed out that the company wants to build up anticipation for the Netflix deal, which starts in January, and Cena's retirement tour. Hence, bringing him back before the end of this year would not accomplish the mission:
"He's [John Cena] gonna be gone for a little while. You know, he just taped Shark Week, which he was very good by the way, but January. I don't think we're gonna see Cena, and why, Tommy? Because they wanna set the anticipation because of the Netflix deal, five billion dollars, and the 'Year of John Cena' starts in January. If you bring him back in October or November, you can't do that. You can't do that. So, it goes back to the money always," he said. [From 09:16 to 09:41]
Recently-crowned WWE champion wants to retire John Cena
Since John Cena announced his retirement plans at Money in the Bank, several WWE Superstars have expressed their desire to square off against the 16-time World Champion during his last run, including the newly-crowned Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker.
Breakker won the IC Title at SummerSlam by defeating Sami Zayn. In an interview with the Daily Star, the second-generation WWE Superstar revealed that he would like to retire The Leader of the Cenation:
"I think the only fitting match that comes to mind for me is to retire John Cena, because I mean he's going on a Farewell Tour from what I know. I don't know how long he's going to be around and stuff, or what his schedule is, but if he wants to come back and have the best possible match with the most elite talent that there is to work with that he hasn't worked with yet that's me. There is no one else. So if he wants to get in there and mix it up with the best of the best of the next generation, that's going to ... next five, ten years [...] going to step up and be leaders for this locker room, it's me," he said. Cena has confirmed his appearance at next year's Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania. It would be interesting to see which WWE Superstars he will cross paths with on his retirement tour.
