Massive WWE legend unexpectedly turning heel on Cody Rhodes is a bad idea, says veteran
A massive WWE legend is expected to return to the Stamford-based company soon. A wrestling veteran recently warned that the mentioned legend must not turn heel on Cody Rhodes. This was Tom Prichard.
The superstar in question is none other than John Cena. The Leader of the Cenation will return to WWE in January 2025 to embark on his retirement tour. While Cody Rhodes expressed his desire to share the ring with the 16-time world champion during his final run, some fans and experts suggested that Cena turn heel on The American Nightmare.
When asked about the possibility of that happening on the Taking You To School podcast, wrestling veteran Tom Prichard claimed it would be a bad idea.
"I don't think that's a good idea at all because John's gonna be ready to retire as a babyface and go into movies and he needs people loving his movies. And he can always come back as an ambassador. And I don't know if it's the right thing to do to Cody," he said. [28:51 - 29:09]
Cody Rhodes commented on WWE refusing to turn John Cena heel
After a brief heel run at the beginning of his career, John Cena turned babyface and has remained so until today. Although turning the 16-time world champion heel again was discussed, the company never gave the idea the green light.
In an interview with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, Cody Rhodes claimed WWE made the right decision by keeping Cena a babyface.
"I've certainly been booed before, been booed heavily... I guess I think minimally about it. And I could... You never say never. John [Cena]'s never happened, and I think rightfully so. I think what we got there, we look back at now and realize, I was just watching him vs. Umaga the other day, you see the magic of what John was able to do. With the time I have left, contract wise, I don't see it. But again, never say never. Absolutes are the worst thing in sports entertainment and pro wrestling," he said. [H/T - WrestlingInc.]
Cena and Rhodes went head-to-head a few times during the latter's first WWE run. However, The American Nightmare never defeated The Leader of the Cenation. It would be interesting to see if he would get another shot at the 16-time world champion on the latter's retirement tour.
