Matt Cardona blames 16-time WWE champion for potential injury
Matt Cardona may have been re-injured by a 16-time WWE champion at a recent show. In the latest happenings on the independent circuit, fans saw Matt Cardona start off GCW Now And Forever by announcing that he would make his in-ring return at GCW Homecoming Night Two.
The event will mark Cardona’s first match since April after recovering from a torn pec. Later in the night, Cardona got involved in the main event match between Nick Gage and Matt Hardy. He tried to convince the 16-time WWE champion to cancel the match as he was too good for GCW.
After Hardy refused to listen to Matt Cardona, he interfered in the match only to get floored with a Twist of Fate by the 49-year-old star. Matt Hardy then issued the challenge for a tag team match at GCW Homecoming Night Two involving himself and Gage against Matt Cardona and Broski Jimmy.
Cardona took to X to issue a statement where he tore into the 16-time WWE champion. He noted that he only wanted to help out the veteran, who may have possibly re-torn his surgically repaired pectoral muscle with the Twist of Fate.
The TNA star ended his rant by noting that he was taken to a local medical facility to see if the match could even happen. He expressed his frustration at Matt Hardy, Nick Gage, and Steph De Lander.
The entire rant could be part of a storyline, as Twist of Fate may not have done too much damage to the Indie God. However, the star will have to play it safe and make sure he is cleared to compete before he takes to the ring again.
WWE's newest partnership could bring Matt Cardona and Matt Hardy to NXT
WWE’s newest partnership with TNA could open doors to the return of some former superstars who worked for the company for over a decade. Fans have already seen many names from TNA appear on NXT.
Recent reports suggest that WWE held talks with Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy during SummerSlam weekend. That could lead to an appearance by the duo on the promotion down the line.
Meanwhile, Matt Cardona is another fan favorite who could benefit from the deal. Now that he can return to the ring after recovering from his injury, the company could show some interest in his return for a memorable rivalry.
