Matt Hardy asserts that former WWE Champion will be back
WWE legend Matt Hardy strongly believes one of World Wrestling Entertainment's biggest babyface stars will be back. He made the statement during a recent conversation on his podcast.
Hardy, 50, is arguably one of the greatest tag team specialists in the industry, best known for his collaborative efforts with his real-life brother, Jeff. He touched upon the successful New Day segment on WWE RAW a few days ago, pointing to how Big E was presented in a sympathetic light. He feels that Triple H would not have taken that route if they did not have plans for the former WWE Champion.
On The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy, the TNA star praised what Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E were able to accomplish, noting that the emotion was on point and viewers really felt it. Furthermore, he credited Kofi for being able to shrug off his eternal babyface persona in order to reinvent:
"For him to really turn it up to the max on letting go of his fear of being an a**hole and really being a d**k in this situation where there’s all this sympathy on Big E, and they're talking about, 'No, you had a broken neck, other people came back but you didn’t even come back to help us when you could have.' Just a ton of sympathy on him and that segment was so important," Matt Hardy said.
He added that WWE Creative has nailed the beginning, and now they have to follow it up. Matt Hardy backed up his statement about Big E's potential return because Xavier Woods explicitly said that E will never be cleared:
"The biggest thing to me was that there was a telltale sign when [Xavier Woods] said, 'Admit it. You are never going to be cleared.' That was the biggest thing to me. Just even they decided to reference that. It seems like that was put in there specifically for a reason." [From 17:46 onwards]
By the end of the aforementioned segment, the live crowd was organically chanting "Big E Rocks" as opposed to The New Day. Matt Hardy concluded by stating that WWE probably does expect him to get cleared eventually.
WWE analyst Sam Roberts shares Matt Hardy's sentiment about Kofi Kingston
Speaking on Notsam Wrestling, Sam Roberts admitted that WWE really threw a curveball here as the last thing he expected was Kofi Kingston turning heel at this stage in his career. He feels that nobody could have seen Kingston as a villain prior to him berating Big E for the latter's neck injury.
As of this writing, there is no word on whether Big E will step back inside the squared circle. He has been away from the ring since March 2022.
