Matt Riddle reveals what Bill Goldberg said to him after "disrespectful" comments (Exclusive)
Bill Goldberg often divides opinion among fans and other wrestlers. One of the WCW icon's biggest critics, Matt Riddle, recently shared new details about his interactions with the 57-year-old.
Riddle has repeatedly criticized Goldberg for failing to protect his opponents. In 2019, the 38-year-old called the WWE Hall of Famer "unsafe, dangerous, and a liability" after his match against The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia.
Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter and host Dr. Chris Featherstone spoke to Riddle about his relationship with Goldberg. Addressing his first interaction with the former football player backstage at SummerSlam 2019, Riddle revealed what they said to each other:
"Bill wasn't happy about it. That day, there's that one skit that's caught on camera. Then we ran into each other again where we had a longer talk and he basically said I was very disrespectful by saying what I said, and I go, 'I don't think I was.' Then he goes, 'How do you figure?' I go, 'Because I wasn't lying.' He goes, 'Well, my bank account's huge.' I go, 'I bet it is.'" [7:31 – 7:54]
Riddle responded by acknowledging that Goldberg will always have more money than him. He also took a dig at the former WWE star for his underwhelming matches:
"I don't think I'll ever have a bank account the size of Bill Goldberg's," Riddle said. "But I know nobody is ever gonna go back in time to see that superstar match, a wrestling classic, of Bill Goldberg's. They might watch a compilation of Spears and Jackhammers. But nobody's going back to watch that 15-minute barnburner with Bill, you know? He wasn't happy with that either." [7:54 – 8:17]

Matt Riddle on his current relationship with Bill Goldberg
Several years later, the two men spoke to each other again on the way back from another WWE show in Saudi Arabia.
Matt Riddle added that while he and Bill Goldberg are not friends, they now have a better understanding of how they view the wrestling business differently:
"We didn't talk for a while, but then we reconnected on a trip to Saudi. He was wrestling there and we talked on the airplane ride home after a couple of Bloody Marys. We were stuck on an airplane there. I wouldn't say we're best friends, but I think we see eye to eye on a lot more things now and our relationship's not that bad." [8:17 – 8:39]
Riddle was released from WWE in September 2023 after five years with the company. Goldberg also became a free agent after competing in the last match on his WWE contract against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022.
