MCMG have not proven they are great in WWE despite beating The Bloodline, says legend (Exclusive)
WWE threw a creative curveball at fans this week as The Motor City Machine Guns became the new WWE Tag Team Champions on the latest episode of SmackDown. Despite the monumental win, legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter still believes that the dominant duo has to prove themselves in the Stamford-based company.
After airing a mysterious vignette, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin debuted on a SmackDown episode recently and were instantly positioned as a top tag team in the division.
The well-traveled duo secured two big wins in the number-one contender's tournament for the WWE Tag Team Championship, with their second win coming this week against Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.
Surprisingly for the viewers, Sabin and Shelley were confronted by The Bloodline, which consists of Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu, on SmackDown, and an impromptu title match was booked. As things panned out, interferences from Roman Reigns and The Usos helped Alex and Chris defeat the Tongans and win the tag team titles in only their third match in the company.
Bill Apter reacted to the moment and while he admitted the win was well-executed, The Motor City Machine Guns still had to show they were a top tag team in the promotion.
The legendary wrestling journalist briefly explained while sharing his honest thoughts on the title change:
"Although it all looked good for The Motor City Machine Guns, the fans were chanting for them the whole time, but I still think they have to prove that they are a great tag team in the WWE yet."
The Motor City Machine Guns are true veterans of pro wrestling who have won tag team titles all around the world. They could not have asked for a better start in the Stamford-based company and as the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, Shelley and Sabin would now want to cement their status as one of the greatest tag teams of the modern era.
