"Modern-day John Cena but better" losing at Crown Jewel was a major mistake by WWE, feels former champion

Former WWE Superstar Matt Morgan believes the company made a mistake at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. Morgan was not a fan of Roman Reigns, whom he called "John Cena but better," losing in the opening match of the premium live event.

To the surprise of many, Reigns and The Usos started Crown Jewel with their six-man tag team match against The Bloodline. A surprising twist happened at the end of the bout, with Solo Sikoa pinning the Original Tribal Chief for the win.

On the latest episode of the Gigantic Pop podcast, the two-time TNA World Tag Team Champion explained why Crown Jewel "sucked." He pointed out that Reigns should have never gotten pinned by Sikoa.

"This is part of why it sucked. They kicked the event off with having the Superman of their company, the modern-day John Cena if you will but better. Roman Reigns taking a pinfall, you don't give a Roman Reigns pinfall!" Morgan said. [2:49 - 3:03]

Saturday's match at Crown Jewel was just the second time Roman Reigns wrestled since returning at SummerSlam 2024. Reigns and Cody Rhodes won their tag team main event bout at Bad Blood.

With his win, Sikoa became just the fourth man in more than four years to pin the Original Tribal Chief. Besides The Street Champion of the Island, Baron Corbin, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes are the only stars to secure pinfall victories over Reigns since December 2019.

As for the John Cena comparison by Matt Morgan, Reigns has become the face of WWE after the 16-time World Champion moved to Hollywood.

Matt Morgan thinks Jey Uso should remain in the main event scene in WWE

There's no question that Jey Uso is one of the most popular superstars in WWE today. Jey received a thunderous ovation at Crown Jewel. This prompted Matt Morgan to point out on the Gigantic Pop podcast that the company must continue pushing the former Intercontinental Champion.

"They were going ballistic for him which is proving the point even more. He can stand alone as a main event [superstar]," Morgan said. [1:13 - 1:20]

It will be interesting to see how long The Usos' reunion with Roman Reigns lasts, especially with Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 just right around the corner.
