MVP issues statement on retirement; reveals potential WWE gimmick return

WWE recently parted ways with MVP and Bobby Lashley amid major rumors on the future of The Hurt Business. While the multi-promotion champion has been out of the ring for a few years, the hiatus looks to be ending soon. MVP has just teased the return of a fan-favorite gimmick while declaring his in-ring future.

Montel Vontavious Porter became a free agent last month as his WWE contract expired. The same went for Bobby Lashley, fueling rumors of a reunion of The Hurt Business with the reveal of a new name. MVP's last match came on July 18, 2022, as he and Omos took a DQ loss to The Street Profits. One month prior, the Miami native defeated Cedric Alexander in what was his final singles match for the company.

The Franchise Player plans to continue his 23-year career, and he's not done inside the squared circle. MVP took to Instagram today and shared a photo of his Killmonger gear, inspired by the character in Marvel's Black Panther movie. The 50-year-old teased a return of the attire and confirmed that he will work a few matches before retiring from in-ring action.

"I still have the 'Killmonger' ring gear. I may have to bring that back. I'll be back in the ring. I have a few more matches before I finally retire from the ring. Stay tuned...," MVP wrote with the photo below.

Porter is known for wearing his signature singlet, and his comeback gear included two Marvel-themed looks. The Killmonger attire was brought out at the 2020 Royal Rumble for MVP's surprise return, and he wore the red Punisher gear on RAW the next night.

MVP to host and perform at event following WWE exit

MVP is set to host an upcoming non-wrestling event. This will be an album release party for a noted pro wrestling fan with a wrestling costume contest.

Rapper Mega Ran formed a group with two other longtime wrestling fans turned rappers - Teek Hall and G1ToTheRescue. The group, named 3MB after the former WWE faction, is holding an album release event on Sunday, October 27, at Valley Bar in Phoenix, AZ. Their album is inspired by their love of WWE.

Ran announced on X that Montel Vontavious Porter will be the special guest host, and he will perform live on stage that night. MVP has had a part-time hip-hop career since June 2011.

"BIG NEWS: Business just picked up. [flexed biceps emoji] Next show in Phoenix will be hosted by the legend himself, @the305MVP! See you at Valley Bar 10/27!" Mega Ran wrote with the image below.

The event will also feature a wrestling costume contest with a cash prize. Tickets start at $12 via valleybarphx.com, but the event is open to ages 16 and up.
