"My neck had already been broken" - WWE legend on scary spot that had fans concerned
A WWE Hall of Famer discussed a wild spot that folded her body two decades ago. Lita, who broke her neck in 2002, had one of the most infamous spots in RAW history in a match against Trish Stratus.
The first-ever RAW main event match featuring two women happened on December 6, 2004. Lita defeated Stratus in an iconic match to win the WWE Women's Championship for the second time in her career.
One of the biggest spots in the match was a suicide dive by Lita on Stratus. She landed awkwardly as her body contorted in a bad way but continued and finished the match as planned.
In an interview on Ring The Belle podcast, The Queen of Extreme explained that some younger fans thought she broke her neck from that spot. She was a little sore after it, but she didn't suffer an injury. However, she broke her neck in 2002 while working as a stunt double in a television show.
"You know what's interesting? I hear a lot with younger fans that weren't around for the first time that's like, 'That's when you broke your neck?' I'm like, 'My neck had already been broken,' but maybe it's because I had a titanium reinforcement. … I felt it and I was like a little sore the next day, but I was fine," Lita said. Lita continued her feud with Trish Stratus after her triumphant win on RAW. They had a rematch at New Year's Revolution in early January, wherein Lita suffered a legitimate knee injury. Stratus ended up getting the victory and regaining the title.
Lita was rumored for WWE return last month
Before NXT 2300 was held in early November, there were rumors that Lita was one of the names being considered for the event. She was part of ECW in the late 1990s as Angelica and Miss Congeniality before signing with WWE.
In the same interview on the Ring The Belle podcast, Lita was asked if there was any truth to the rumors.
"That would have been a good fit. Two queens of extreme [Lita and Francine] in one building. Hmmmm," Lita said. [H/T: Fightful]
Lita's last WWE appearance was on the November 14, 2023, episode of NXT. She announced the competitors for that year's Women's Iron Survivor Challenge.
