Nic Nemeth takes a shot at WWE Superstar CM Punk: "We all think we're the best"
WWE Superstar CM Punk is a darling through the lens of fans, but there is a section who are unable to comprehend how the prodigal son is the babyface against company-man Seth Rollins. TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth had some things to say about his former on-screen rival recently.
He feels that The Best in the World has earned the main event spot at WrestleMania 41 after spending a year building trust and drawing huge box office numbers; unlike before, when all Punk did was rant about how he deserved it.
Speaking on Busted Open, Nic Nemeth enthusiastically responded to WWE crafting a proper storyline for CM Punk to get there, rather than rehashing what they did with Cody Rhodes a year ago, where the latter proclaimed about finishing the story. Nemeth pointed to the Survivor Series main event last Saturday, stating that it was the beginning of something important that will be part of the narrative on the Road To WrestleMania 41:
"[WWE is] telling a story based on the actual thing of down the line. In reality, Punk the person always wanted to main event WrestleMania, and now this story actually applies instead of just the complaining guy in the early 2000s," Nemeth said. "Not just because all those years I was there, he goes, 'I should be main eventing,' because he thought he was the best. We all think we're the best. You just get more microphone time," he added. As of this writing, there are many ways WWE Creative can go with this narrative. But it appears they are testing the waters for the inevitable and long-overdue CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins showdown on the grandest spectacle in April 2025.
Another former WWE star believes CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns is a legitimate possibility
Matthew Rehwoldt, who wrestled for WWE under the ring name Aiden English, discussed the aftermath of Survivor Series: WarGames.
On his podcast REBOOKED, Rehwoldt noted that WWE has masterfully sown the seeds for the high-profile showdown between The Best in the World and Roman Reigns. He feels that the bout could happen as soon as next year's Show of Shows if Triple H & Co. decides to strike while the iron is hot:
"I think it gives up a little bit of excitement for a potential Roman vs. Punk match, for sure, despite, I think, the respect is in character legitimately there," Rehwoldt said, referring to their handshake in the closing moments of Survivor Series: WarGames.
CM Punk also teased going after Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. Sam Roberts addressed the potential showdown owing to the complicated relationship between the two former AEW stars.
