Odyssey Jones might be too big to draw any money, WWE veteran suggests

Odyssey Jones made a huge impact on the August 5 episode of WWE RAW after his long-awaited main roster debut. Dutch Mantell, formerly known as Zeb Colter in WWE, is unsure about the powerhouse superstar's prospects on the red brand.

Jones attacked Karrion Kross at ringside to help Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods defeat Akam and Rezar. He also performed an impressive double side slam on both Authors of Pain members after the match.

The 30-year-old is billed at six-foot-five and 405 pounds. However, speaking on his Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, Mantell explained why wrestlers of that size do not always succeed:

"He's a big guy, a really big guy. But he's almost too big, to tell you the truth, to draw any money with, and I hate to see these big guys come in, they'll push them for a while [and then stop], and I don't know what kind of personality he has. If he has a personality, maybe they'll do something with him. And I've said this forever, if they can't talk and they don't have a personality, he's just another big guy." [1:37:54 – 1:38:25]

Jones has not competed in a televised WWE match since losing to Dijak on the April 4, 2023, episode of NXT. He was drafted to RAW shortly after that bout but did not feature on the show for over a year.

Dutch Mantell compares Bronson Reed and Odyssey Jones

Elsewhere on RAW this week, Bronson Reed hit Seth Rollins with his top-rope Tsunami splash six times. Like Odyssey Jones, Reed is one of WWE's strongest and most imposing superstars.

Although both segments were widely praised, Dutch Mantell believes WWE is taking a risk by introducing Jones on the same show as Reed:

"If you have too many of the big guys, the big guys are drawn naturally, because of their size, together, and he may not be able to have a good match with another big guy. He'll have a good match with maybe some guys who can put over his stuff, but this is a gamble." [1:39:48 – 1:40:09]

Following his explosive debut, Jones took to social media to share a message of gratitude.
