"One of the boys" - 4th generation star has more in common with AEW than WWE despite legendary legacy, believes veteran

Wrestling veteran Stevie Richards believes that AEW signing a fourth-generation WWE star is not a bad idea. Tony Khan is open to bringing a legendary WWE figure to his company despite some opposition from the fans.

It was widely reported over the last few weeks that Shane McMahon might be on hs way to AEW despite being attached to the WWE all of his life. Shane is a fourth-generation star considering his great-grandfather Jess, grandfather Vince Sr., and father Vince Jr. were all involved in wrestling.

On the first episode of The Stevie Richards Show, the ECW legend explained why AEW signing Shane-O-Mac to a contract is not a bad idea at all. He pointed at Shane being popular among wrestling fans, as well as being approachable backstage.

"This would be awesome. This would be absolutely awesome for AEW because I think Shane, with the smart marks and the hardcore fans, they have a respect for Shane that they don't have for Vince or Stephanie or even Triple H. Shane puts his body on the line. Shane puts his life on the line. Shane did the style that identifies with what the AEW fans I think really like and Shane is really, he's a charismatic guy. He's a guy that identifies with fans," Richards said.

The former WWE star added:

"There's that video I talked about where I think he's at the Mets or the Yankees game and he's coming through. He has a beer in his hand, people are sharing, he's putting a hand up doing the Shane McMahon-like hand signs. And he's about the most fan-friendly McMahon that I know of and he is kind of one of the boys." [From 01:54 to 02:41]

Former WWE star teases Shane McMahon's AEW appearance

In her recent newsletter, current AEW TBS Championship Mercedes Mone revealed that she bumped into Shane McMahon at the airport. They were both in New York when they saw each other and spoke briefly before exchanging numbers.

"My first day being a double title holder and the first wrestler and former WWE Superstar I see is a McMahon. ... Come on, if that isn't the universe working in divine timing, I don't know what else it could be. I've always loved Shane. When we locked eyes, we both kind of looked at each other like, 'IS THAT YOU?' Our faces lit up as we got to talking a bit and before he boarded his flight, he gave me his number. ... The rest as they say (is) history or maybe a mystery!" Mone said. [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]

While it's hard for some fans to think of a McMahon joining AEW, Shane is not under contract with WWE, so anything is possible now.
