Only one of Vince McMahon's children opposed his "affair" with female WWE star: "My mom's kinda sacred to me"
In 2001, former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had an on-screen affair with a female superstar. While one of McMahon's children had no problem with the storyline, another did.
The storyline in question saw the former chairman getting romantically involved with Trish Stratus while married to his wife, Linda. While discussing the controversial angle on the fifth episode of Netflix's new Mr. McMahon docuseries, the 79-year-old claimed his family had no problem with it. However, his son, Shane, disclosed otherwise.
In his interview with Netflix, Shane McMahon revealed that he disliked the storyline and disapproved of it:
"If anything is mentioned about my mom, usually, my first reaction is 'no.' You know, my mom's kinda sacred to me. So, I didn't quite like that one," he said.
When McMahon was confronted in the documentary with Shane's comments, he changed his statement, confessing that his son may have had "a little problem" with the on-screen affair:
"Well, Shane is a bit more conservative than the rest of us. So, Shane may have had a little bit of a problem with that 'cause he sometimes, 'Wait a minute. You're getting too close to real now.' I'm thinking, 'This is a storyline. It's characters entertaining the audience. Just go with it,'" McMahon added.
Shane McMahon also opposed his sister's real-life relationship with WWE CCO Triple H
Around the same time Vince McMahon had an on-screen affair with Trish Stratus, Stephanie McMahon was in a relationship with Triple H on and off screen. In Netflix's Mr. McMahon docuseries, Shane McMahon disclosed that he was against his sister dating a WWE Superstar.
The former WWE Chairman also discussed his son's stand on The Billion Dollar Princess' relationship with The Game, disclosing a conversation he had with Shane about the subject:
"Shane was very much against it. Vehemently so," McMahon said. "Shane came to me and said, 'Dad, you're letting your daughter date a wrestler?' 'Shane, that's who I am. I'm wrestling, I'm performing, I don't know what you mean by that.' And so, to me, it made sense for Stephanie to date and marry someone like Paul," he added.
Shane and his father disagreed on many occasions. Paul Heyman even revealed in the documentary that McMahon once dared his son to stab him after arguing over a creative idea proposed by Shane.
