WWE News: Paige to undergo surgery next wednesday
Prior to her suspension, Paige had said that she had two surgery options given to her by the doctor. It was reported that one was a short-term surgery that would not fully heal her but would allow her to get back in the ring soon. The second option was a long-term one that would keep her out for almost a year but would help to permanently fix her problem.
Thankfully, it looks like Paige has taken the second option, as she will be undergoing surgery next Wednesday. She is estimated to be out for 6-9 months, which means that she will definitely be missing Wrestlemania 33 next year. She is getting the surgery done by the same doctor who operated on Tyson Kidd after his career-ending and life-threatening injury. It looks like perhaps the earliest she could return is April to May, but it will definitely be post-Wrestlemania.
Paige last appeared on Raw at the end of June where she unsuccessfully challenged Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Championship. She has been off television since then, dealing with nagging neck injuries. A few days before Summerslam, Paige was suspended for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy. And a few days ago, she failed the policy for the second time, being the first person to get two suspensions so close to each other. It had not even been a month off her first suspension that she got the second one.
The first suspension, according to Paige, was due to the fact that she simply did not hand over the test on time. Hornswoggle had also violated the policy in the same manner last year. This time around, she claimed that she took painkillers for her neck and that they were prescribed to her by her doctor. However, WWE fired back when they told the New York Post that she got suspended for taking an illegal drug and not prescribed painkillers. WWE usually never responds like that, but in this case, they clearly felt the need to.
This year has been clearly a very rough one for Paige, and she said in an interview with TMZ.com recently in New York City that she was not going to be commenting on the WWE situation now, and is hoping for a better 2017. Hopefully, over the course of her rehab, cooler heads will prevail, and she will return to WWE better than ever.
