Paul Heyman and 55-year-old are behind WWE's success, Hall of Famer says
Paul Heyman has been working predominantly with Roman Reigns since 2020, and WWE has greatly benefited from this iconic duo. Wrestling legend Kurt Angle believes The Wiseman is instrumental to the product's success today, as does the company's Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque.
While it may not be right to say he is the only factor, many believe Roman Reigns is one of the biggest reasons World Wrestling Entertainment has largely succeeded this decade, and the business has seen a boom. Reigns has credited Paul Heyman for his 'Tribal Chief' persona, stating on record that without Heyman, his character will not exist.
In an interview with The Takedown on SI, Kurt Angle praised Paul Heyman and The Game for the changes they have brought to the product. He stated that both of them know the business very well, so they are worthy successors to the man behind World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon.
"The guys that were underneath him know the business in and out the way Vince did. I will tell you this: nobody will ever be Vince McMahon," Angle stated. "But Triple H, he knows the business pretty d*mn good. Paul Heyman, he knows the business pretty d*mn good. So we have a lot of good guys that we can turn to and depend on for the business to continue to grow." [From 9:04 to 9:32]
The Olympic Gold Medalist further ruled out facing John Cena during the latter's Farewell Tour, which commences in January and culminates in December 2025.
Kurt Angle gives credit where it's due for Vince McMahon; Paul Heyman's WWE on-screen return
During the same interview with The Takedown on SI, the WWE Hall of Famer addressed the negativity surrounding Vince McMahon these days but added that the sports entertainment giant would not have become what it is today if it was not for the former WWE Chairman.
"Despite everything going on in the world right now with Vince today, what he was able to do—take this family-owned company that was in the Northeast region and make it into a world phenomenon, and having that vision—is something short of incredible." [From 27:48 to 28:08]
WWE is moving on to its next big step in 2025, as the product will be streaming on Netflix. The debut show will feature John Cena, whose Farewell Tour begins there.
As for Paul Heyman, it remains to be seen when he makes a comeback on-screen. The Wiseman was last seen in June this year. He was finally referenced on SmackDown this past Friday, but the show ended on a cliffhanger.
