Paul Heyman has surprising take on why he's successful in WWE

WWE helped cement Paul Heyman's legacy earlier this year as he headlined the Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Widely regarded as one of the best orators, managers, bookers, promoters, and creative minds pro wrestling has ever seen, Heyman has left his mark on the entire industry in many ways, but now he's revealing the surprising reason he has for his success.

The Wiseman began his pro wrestling career in 1978 at 13. Heyman started as a photographer but went on to wear many hats: newsletter and magazine writer, manager, and mentor to more than two dozen stars, commentator, booker and creative writer, ECW owner, on-screen authority, RAW Executive Director, and even wrestler in more than fifty matches, among others.

The former Paul E. Dangerously has an interesting take on why he's been so successful. Heyman recently spoke with Jazzy's World TV and was asked why he's had so much success in pro wrestling. The 59-year-old recalled a few harsh words from his late mother, Sulamita.

"I think I'm successful just because I never really wanted a real job in my life, and I have successfully avoided having a real job for the entire width of my existence. It was probably from my mother saying, 'You're a schmuck, and nobody is going to like you. So, do what you want to do with your life anyway,'" Paul Heyman said. [From 00:57 to 1:14]

Heyman's in-ring career has not been as successful. The Advocate has only won six of 65 matches and four draws. He began working multi-man matches in 1988, then made his singles debut at NWA Great American Bash 1988 in a Tuxedo Street Fight loss to Jim Cornette.

Heyman hasn't wrestled since WWE Hell in a Cell 2013, where he and Ryback lost a Handicap Cell match to CM Punk.

Paul Heyman expected to return to WWE storylines soon

Paul Heyman has been away from the WWE storylines since the June 28 edition of SmackDown. The show ended with Solo Sikoa and his version of The Bloodline destroying The Wiseman for refusing to acknowledge The New Tribal Chief.

Roman Reigns returned from his hiatus at SummerSlam 2024 to begin his revenge feud with Sikoa. Reigns' battle with Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa has played out over SmackDown in recent weeks, with no sign of Heyman.

There's been no solid timeframe on when Heyman will be back. However, since Reigns returned, there's been talk that it's just a matter of time before his mouthpiece is brought back for WWE's rumored Bloodline Civil War.

The Original Tribal Chief is set to make his in-ring return at Bad Blood on October 5. Reigns will team up with Cody Rhodes to take on Sikoa and Fatu that night.
