Popular WWE tag team calls out The Motor City Machine Guns; builds anticipation for a long-awaited showdown
The WWE Universe witnessed the debut of The Motor City Machine Guns on the latest episode of SmackDown. The duo of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin put the entire tag team division on notice with their performance.
Shelley and Sabin showed up to be a part of the WWE Tag Team Championship number-one contender's tournament. They competed against Los Garza and A-Town Down Under in a Triple Threat Tag Team Qualifying Match. In the other first-round clash earlier in the night, DIY defeated the Pretty Deadly and the Street Profits.
WWE correspondent Byron Saxton caught up with DIY on SmackDown LowDown this week. Johnny Gargano mentioned that although the WWE Universe is new to the tandem, he was well aware of their capabilities. He revealed that he was very close to Alex Shelley, who had been like his elder brother. Gargano stated that he was just waiting to get in the ring with them.
"Look, everyone in WWE is new to The Motor City Machine Guns. We are not. This is a match we have wanted for a very, very long time. We have known The Motor City Machine Guns for a long, long time. Alex Shelley, for me personally, has been like a big brother throughout my whole career. They revolutionized tag team wrestling, they did. Let's be honest, they did," Johnny Gargano said. WWE Superstar Tommaso Ciampa also spoke about The Motor City Machine Guns
During the same interview, Tommaso Ciampa also chimed in. He claimed that The Motor City Machine Guns may have revolutionized tag team wrestling, but they would not come out on top next week when the two teams would collide. The winners of that encounter will face The Bloodline for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
"They revolutionized it, but here's the thing. Right place, wrong time. Ten years ago, Motor City Machine Guns, they would be the uncrowned kings of this division. But today, if you're listening, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, the uncrowned kings of the tag team division are us. DIY. See you next week," Tommaso Ciampa said. [1:12 - 1:38]
The duo of Sabin and Shelley have an impressive record and are also three-time TNA World Tag Team Champions. It will be interesting to see if they can replicate the same success in WWE.
