Potential reason for Giovanni Vinci getting squashed on WWE SmackDown debut shared by veteran (Exclusive)

After being built up as the greatest thing on God's green earth, watching Giovanni Vinci lose in three seconds on WWE SmackDown took many fans by surprise. Like many others, Bill Apter was also surprised by the booking but hoped it was done to elevate Apollo Crews.

WWE aired vignettes hyping up Vinci's return in a different persona, and fans, especially those who saw this version of his in NXT, were excited to see what he'd offer upon his debut on the main roster. Unfortunately for the former Imperium member, he got rolled up into a pinfall by Apollo Crews and suffered a pretty shocking defeat on SmackDown.

While reacting to the moment on this week's Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk, Bill Apter channeled his inner Vince Russo and expressed his surprise over Vinci's loss.

Apter, however, felt squashing Giovanni Vinci on SmackDown might have been done to give Apollo Crews, who Bill considered underappreciated, a much-needed win.

"They did so much hype on this guy, and then to have him lose in three seconds, I don't want to sound like Vince Russo, but Bro! What the heck are they doing with him? It was a real shock that they had that go in three seconds. I hope they are doing this to elevate Apollo Crews." [From 22:35 onwards]

While all eyes will be on how Giovanni Vinci bounces back from an upset loss, several fans and pundits will also keep a close watch on WWE's booking of Apollo Crews after this week's twist.
