WWE News: Randy Orton reveals why he was checking on Shane McMahon's son at Survivor Series

Orton celebrates Team SmackDown’s win with the Wyatt Family

The 30th edition of the Survivor Series turned out to be a night to remember not only for the fans gathered at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto but for the entire WWE Universe. One of the primary attractions on the show was the 5-on-5 men’s tag team elimination match between teams from Raw and SmackDown.

While the wrestling action during the match was top notch, it was a humane gesture from Randy Orton which ended up winning hearts.

SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon’s participation in the contest was cut short due to an injury that he suffered after he was speared by Roman Reigns mid-way through his courageous attempt at a ‘Coast to Coast’ move.

As he was being attended by the medical staff in the ring, Orton was seen walking up to Shane’s son, who was sitting in the front row, and assuring him that his father was alright. The Apex Predator’s actions showed that he is the complete opposite of the ‘heel’ character that he portrays inside the squared circle, in real life.

Hours after the pay-per-view ended, Orton explained the reason why he checked on Shane McMahon’s son while responding to a fan’s comment on Twitter. In his tweet, the fan claimed that he had seen ‘The Viper’ calming McMahon kids while the latter was injured and that he had turned from ‘heel’ to ‘face’ in real life.

The superstar responded by stating that being a father himself, he understood how it was for kids to be around when things went awry. The tweet exchange was as follows:

Apart from displaying his fatherly instincts, Randy Orton also put together a spectacular performance in the ring. First, he eliminated Chris Jericho with an RKO and then went on to play a big role in helping Bray Wyatt eliminate the last two members of the Raw team, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.

His RKO to Rollins, which countered an attempted Frog Splash by the latter on Wyatt, drew particular praise from all quarters as it helped Team SmackDown get rid of ‘The Architect’. Here are a few tweets which appreciated Orton’s effort:

Towards the end of the match, Reigns was about to hit ‘The Eater of the Worlds’ with a spear but Randy made the save by taking the spear on himself. This allowed enough room for Wyatt to perform Sister Abigail on ‘The Big Dog’ and pick up the win for Team Smackdown.
