WWE News: Raw ratings bump up big thanks to Goldberg return

The long-awaited return of the legend drew in lot of viewers

Last night on Raw, Goldberg made his return to WWE which was 12 years in the making. Since it was announced a week in advance and promoted, it helped draw quite a lot of viewers, as Raw  saw a big ratings bump this week. The show drew 3.130 million viewers, which is a 13.5% increase over last week's episode of 2.758 million.

The breakdown of the three hours were as follows:

Hour one: 3.17 million
Hour two: 3.11 million
Hour three: 3.12 million

It will be interesting to see if Raw can maintain the audience as they announced multiple matches next week, i.e, A Triple Threat main event between Universal Champion Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Chris Jericho, the Hell In A Cell Tag Team Championship match on free tv in a non-title match and also announced the return of The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar to his hometown of Minneapolis to answer Goldberg.

Raw was fourth for the night on cable, trailing the New York Jets vs. Arizona Cardinals game (8,398,000 viewers), the Cleveland vs. Toronto playoff game (4,287,000 viewers) and The O'Reilly Factor (3,154,000 viewers).

It should be noted for the first time in ages the viewership increased from hour 2 to hour 3. This is definitely a sign that people stuck around to watch Goldberg. WWE was promoting Goldberg and his return throughout the show, making it the focal point that everything was culminating to on the show.

Goldberg’s return promo garnered a lot of praise among the fans who could feel the genuine passion about his return, where he spoke about wanting to be a superhero for the kids. He was also clearly overwhelmed by the great reception that he received by the crowd in Denver, Colorado.
