Recent decision to crown new champions in WWE questioned by Teddy Long (Exclusive)
A recent booking decision in WWE is apparently not to a Hall of Famer's liking. According to Teddy Long, the situation could have been salvaged with the help of a storyline.
On SmackDown, the newly recruited Motor City Machine Guns were able to take down the Bloodline and win the Tag Team Titles. In the pursuit of winning, they upset a lot of fans when the Street Profits were taken out of the running in a qualifying match. Teddy Long, for one, thinks that the decision to crown MCMG as champions needed a storyline to go with it.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine hosted by Mac Davis, Teddy Long was asked about how a gradual push would have worked. He stated:
"Well, all that's kinda gone down the drain. That's exactly the proper way to do it, you know, get a storyline out of it. Make it mean something so that when they do finally come to a head, when they're gonna go for the titles, then the people now know who they are." [4:50 onwards]
The WWE Hall of Famer thinks MCMG's win was a carefully planned decision
Despite not liking the booking, Teddy Long has pointed out that it may still serve a purpose.
Speaking on the same episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, the WWE Hall of Famer speculated that this may provide a reality check to MCMG, who are quite well known outside of the Stamford-based promotion.
"We always gotta be paying attention because you never know what's going on, so sometimes things happen for a reason. So this may have been something to let the Motor City Machine Guns guys know that 'Hey, you are not as good as you think you are.'" [6:41 onwards]
MCMG and Street Profits are already slated to go up against each other on WWE SmackDown. Only time will tell who comes out on top.
