Recently-pushed WWE star is well-liked backstage and has the support of CCO Triple H, according to released talent
Several WWE Superstars have received a significant push over the past few months. According to a former WWE host, one of these in-ring competitors is well-liked and has the support of Chief Content Officer Triple H.
The superstar in question is Damian Priest. The Judgment Day member won the Money in the Bank briefcase last year. Earlier this year, he cashed in on Drew McIntyre to capture the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL. When a fan claimed that Triple H is pushing Priest because he likes him on The Wrestling Matt Show podcast, former RAW Talk host Matt Camp agreed.
Camp stated that Priest is well-liked backstage in the Stamford-based company. He disclosed that Vince McMahon and The Game were fans of the 41-year-old. Hence, he indeed has the support of the Chief Content Officer:
"He is well-liked. I will tell you that. I think Vince liked him. I know Hunter likes him. I know a lot of people are happy with the work he's done and the work that he puts in. And you know, he's thrown himself into all this. So, yeah, he certainly has support. I just don't know if he's over enough as a world champion," he said. [27:16 - 27:39]
Damian Priest will defend his World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Clash at the Castle
Since winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL, Damian Priest has defended his title only once in a televised match against Jey Uso at Backlash France. He will now put his championship on the line next Saturday at Clash at the Castle against Drew McIntyre.
On a previous episode of The Wrestling Matt Show podcast, Matt Camp pointed out a significant problem with Priest's World Heavyweight Championship run. He claimed winning the title failed to elevate the Judgment Day member to a higher level. Instead, he is still in the same spot he was before WrestleMania:
"I just don't think that Damian has been able to get to the top. I don't think he's been able to move up with the world. I think he's been at the exact same spot, as you mentioned, pre-championship, which is not what you want. And maybe that's because he was getting overshadowed by Rhea. Maybe that's because everything that's going on, it feels like everything that's been going on in his own group is more important than him right now," he said.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. recently predicted that Priest will retain his title at Clash at the Castle. However, he believes the 41-year-old will drop the championship to Gunther at WWE SummerSlam. It would be interesting to see if his predictions come true.
