Record 12-time WWE champions headed for heartbreaking split after 10 years, believes former star; Gunther intervention on RAW key

A popular WWE faction might be on course for a heartbreaking split after sticking together for a decade, believes former NXT Tag Team Champion Matthew Rehwoldt (FKA Aiden English). The faction in question is The New Day.

Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E formed The New Day in 2014 and instantly became fan favorites because of their extremely likable characters. The stable went on to break records by winning several titles. The legendary stable holds the record for winning the most Tag Team Titles (12) across brands. They are four-time RAW Tag Team Champions, seven-time SmackDown Tag Team Champions, and one-time NXT Tag Team Champions.

Even though Big E has been absent from in-ring activities since March 2022, Kingston and Woods have always stuck together. However, their relationship does not seem to be hunky-dory in recent weeks, and many believe The New Day might finally split.

During an edition of the REBOOKED Wrestling Podcast, Matthew Rehwoldt, who was a part of WWE from 2012 to 2020, talked about The New Day's current situation. The erstwhile Aiden English highlighted how Kofi Kingston was eyeing Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship during a backstage segment on this week's RAW.

The former WWE star mentioned that if Kingston goes after the World Title instead of focusing on regaining tag team gold with his partner, Xavier Woods could snap and end his alliance with Kofi.

"If we can assume like the characters of Kofi [Kingston] and [Xavier] Woods had a conversation, 'Hey man, go to [Adam] Pearce, let's get a tag title shot!' [Kofi says], 'Yeah, man, I'm gonna go do that for us.' And in the meantime, his attention is dragged away [on Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship]. So like, he actively but kind of inadvertently forgets the tag title and goes out into business for himself, and Woods can flip a script on that," he said. [36:17-36:46]

WWE allegedly planned a heel turn for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in 2021, according to Matt Camp

During an edition of The Wrestling Matt podcast, former WWE personality Matt Camp made an interesting revelation regarding The New Day.

Camp claimed that the company allegedly had plans for Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston's heel turn after Woods became King of the Ring in 2021.

"There was a plan for Woods and Kofi to be heels when he [Xavier] won King of the Ring. That was absolutely in play. I didn't get a lot of details, but there was thought of the power going to his head, and he finally wins what he always wanted to win and all that," Camp said.
