Released WWE Superstar's MMA debut postponed due to illness
A former WWE Superstar was scheduled to make her MMA debut later this week. However, in a recent social media update, the 36-year-old revealed she had to postpone her first fight due to illness. The name in question is Xia Zhao (fka Xia Li).
After parting ways with WWE in April 2024, she started competing on the independent circuit under the ring name Xia Lee. Earlier this month, Combat Night MMA announced that the former Xia Li will make her MMA debut against Xiomara Lee at their show on August 3.
Xia Zhao recently took to Instagram to share an unfortunate update ahead of the fight, revealing she has tested positive for COVID. She added that she has decided to postpone her debut following the advice of her coaches and doctors. She also thanked her fans for their constant support and promised to be back in action soon.

Xia Li opens up about her time in WWE
After a run on NXT, which never truly gained much momentum, Xia Li was drafted to SmackDown in April 2021. Unfortunately, the lack of any notable storylines saw her being kept away from television more often than not.
During her recent appearance on the Busted Open podcast, Xia Li opened up about her lackluster run in WWE. She mentioned she tried the best she could. So, she has no ill will towards the wrestling promotion.
"You know, I think it’s a lot like that happen. The only thing I can do [is] do everything I can do anyway. Train harder, bring ideas, everything. So, be on TV, I can’t control. They pick who gonna be the next. So, I don’t feel any bad. […] Because I feel I give them all I can. So I feel fine for me. […] Of course, I wish I could get more opportunity. That’s every talent there want to be that. But we can’t help that, you know? I wish I can do more. I can show people more. But now I’m free, I can show more. I can show whatever I want," she said.
Things did not work out that well for Xia Li in WWE. It will be interesting to see how she fares in MMA.
