Released WWE Superstar wins major World Title

A former WWE Superstar, who was let go by the company a few months back, has won a massive World Title. The performer in question is Nic Nemeth (fka Dolph Ziggler), who recently captured the coveted AAA Mega Championship after defeating Alberto El Patron.

The former Dolph Ziggler's 19-year run with WWE ended in September 2023, when he was released from the company, sending shockwaves in the wrestling world. Considering the seasoned veteran he is, Nemeth found no difficulty in establishing himself outside the umbrella of the Stamford-based promotion.

The 43-year-old has become a major star both in IMPACT Wrestling and NJPW, where he also holds the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship.

He has also become the face of the Mexican promotion, AAA, after capturing the AAA Mega Title in a match against Alberto El Patron at Triplemanía XXXII: Monterrey. The two performers headlined the show and put up a clash worthy of the spot.

Ziggler and Alberto El Patron were also rivals in WWE, with the former cashing in his MITB contract on the latter to win the World Heavyweight Championship in 2013.

Nic Nemeth on not being a main eventer in WWE

A few weeks back on the Keepin' It 100 podcast, Nic Nemeth spilled beans on how he was never the preferred person to be pushed into the main scene in WWE.

The former Intercontinental Champion revealed that he was only asked to step up and enter the World Title picture under unforeseen circumstances.

"So you keep fighting and hope, okay, 'If five more people get sick, they are going to shove me in here,' and then this time at this world title match, they're gonna have to say I'm the go-to guy, but that wasn't the case. It was always like a 'Break Glass in case of emergency and put him in the world title match in the last minute.'"

It'll be interesting to see how Nemeth fares both as the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion and AAA Mega Champion in the coming weeks and months.
