Retired ex-WWE star shares rare health update
One of WWE's wrestling legends recently shared an update on social media, eight years after his heart surgery. He penned a heartfelt note, expressing gratitude for getting a new lease on life.
The man in question is Marc Mero. He took to X (formerly Twitter) earlier today to thank all those who reached out to him with thoughts, prayers, and positive affirmations. He also added that people should not put off a visit to the cardiologist as it proved to be a big difference maker in his case.
"Celebrating life! 8 year anniversary since heart surgery. A 4 1/2 hour surgery. My heart had to be stopped for 40 minutes. I was born with 2 heart valves instead of 3. I now have a new heart valve and a repaired Aorta. I have a new lease on life! Thank you for your positive thoughts and prayers during that time but most importantly I thank God for this life saving surgery and keeping me around to help others. Don't put off visiting your cardiologist it could very well save your life. It saved mine. Living with an attitude of gratitude," wrote Mark Mero.

Marc Mero retired from in-ring competition in 2006. He had left WWE with his then-wife, Sable, in 1999. Post-retirement, Mero began operating the Marc Mero Body Slam Training Institute in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Today, he is also a motivational speaker.
Marc Mero's message to his former wife and WWE Superstar, Sable
It was after Sable's marriage to Marc Mero that she broke into the wrestling business through WWE. According to Mero, Vince McMahon was eager to put her on television upon their first meeting.
She divorced Mero in 2004 and subsequently began dating, and eventually married, WWE and UFC athlete Brock Lesnar. Her real name is Rena Marlette Lesnar. While chatting with the WrestlingNewsCo two years ago, Mero was open to discussing his former wife. Moreover, he had nothing but good things to say about her and thanked her for being part of his life, which led him to be where he is today.
"If I could ever say anything to her, it's two words, 'Thank you!'. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have this incredible life that I have today. I would've never have been a speaker, I would've never gone down this road. I think sometimes, people that live with bitterness and anger, or unforgiveness, man, it's just a cancer that destroys you," said Mero.
Brock Lesnar continues to be a part of WWE to date. He has been exclusive to the Stamford-based promotion since 2012. He last wrestled at SummerSlam in August 2023 against Cody Rhodes in a losing effort.
