Retired wrestler confirms interest in facing WWE star Drew McIntyre if he ever returns to the ring

Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has been out of in-ring action since Bad Blood 2024. Meanwhile, a retired wrestler expressed interest in facing The Scottish Warrior if he were to make an in-ring return in the future.

Wade Barrett last competed between the ropes over eight years ago. His final match was on Monday Night RAW in 2016, where he and Sheamus, as The League of Nations, lost to Big E and Kofi Kingston of The New Day.

After that, The British Bullhamer retired from in-ring action and transitioned to non-wrestling roles, primarily as a commentator for WWE. In a recent interview with PWMania, Wade Barrett discussed the possibility of an in-ring return.

The former five-time WWE Intercontinental Champion indicated that Drew McIntyre would be the ideal opponent for such a comeback, referencing a recent on-screen altercation between the two.

"Yeah, I think we all know the answer to that. Absolutely it would be Drew McIntyre. He’s someone I go way back with and very close friends with the guy over the years. He did talk a little smack to me a few weeks ago on RAW and I haven’t forgotten about that. I’m not going to make a major deal of it, but he’s lucky he stopped where he did," said Wade Barrett. While the former NEXUS leader doesn't actively seek a return, he hinted that he could have easily overpowered The Scottish Warrior if the situation had escalated further.

"Let’s just put it that way because if he did take one more step forward, the old bull hammer would have come out, boom, knocked him on his a**, and perhaps that in-ring comeback would have happened by now, but I’m not clamouring for anything like that," he added. [H/T - PWMania.com]

Wade Barrett comments on his current role in WWE

As mentioned earlier, The British Bullhammer is no longer an active WWE wrestler. He is currently a member of the broadcast team alongside Joe Tessitore on the Monday Night RAW brand.

During the same interview with PWMania, Wade Barrett stated that he is content with his current position as a commentator. The retired WWE star dismissed the idea of a wrestling comeback, stating he is fulfilled by his current role and enjoys contributing to the show.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with my role on commentary. It's not something I'm looking to step away from. I don't have some itch to scratch like a lot of the older guys have when they talk about comebacks. I'm really, really satisfied with what I'm doing right now. I love contributing in any way I can on the desk," said Barrett. [H/T - PWMania.com]

Only time will whether a McIntyre vs. Barrett match is in the books if the latter ever decides to come out of retirement for an in-ring match.
