Returning WWE Superstar aspires for Roman Reigns and John Cena's level of character work
Following the draft, it is now known to the WWE Universe that a handful of superstars are free agents. This leaves the door open for them to jump ship to either brand as and when the storyline demands it. Baron Corbin is one of the stars who have this privilege.
Baron Corbin returned to the ring at a recent live event in Paris, and the crowd went nuts for him. The former United States Champion received a well-earned standing ovation from the audience.
In a recent interview with the Catch Club, Baron Corbin spoke his mind on several topics. He revealed that the "Lone Wolf" character he introduced to fans when he made his debut back in 2016, remains his personal favorite, and wishes to tap into the "grittiness" of that character once again:
"Lone Wolf, that was my attitude. Rock and roll, I rode a motorcycle, I’m tattooed, I live that lifestyle. That was a very natural role for me," he said. "I would love to get back to that grittiness of 'The Lone Wolf,' but mix a little bit of everything in it. The Lone Wolf was a little one-dimensional. It didn’t have all that mentions that I think you need to be a John Cena or a Roman Reigns." [H/T Fightful]
The former Mr. Money in the Bank further stated that he wishes to incorporate everything he has learned from each character that he worked as during his WWE run, hoping to "make some magic."
Baron Corbin retained the Lone Wolf gimmick until 2018 before moving to RAW and adopting a new one as the commissioner of Monday nights, the "Constable Corbin."
Baron Corbin on why top WWE Superstar is one of the best in the business
It's worth noting that Baron Corbin still holds the record of being the last person to defeat Roman Reigns via pinfall.
The 2019 King of the Ring continued discussing about Roman Reigns, believing that the one thing that makes superstars stand apart is their ability to emote during a match in a way that evokes a reaction so deeply from fans:
"Roman Reigns can take you from him being just a big bully to you can see the frustration or the sadness or when he feels like the table is crumbling. He can take you through all those emotions; I think that's what you need to have a successful character."
At one point in the interview, he even claimed that he hopes to wrestle Roman Reigns again after winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Read more here.
Baron Corbin is set to return to WWE TV this Friday on SmackDown. He will face the recent NXT call-up Cameron Grimes, who will make his main roster debut.
