Rey Mysterio breaks WWE legend's 12-year record on RAW
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio has added another jewel to his crown. The legendary wrestler was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023. However, Rey has continued to deliver stellar in-ring performances since then.
This week on Monday Night RAW, The Master of 619 broke a record previously held by WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler. In January 2012, Lawler competed in his 32nd match after getting inducted into the Hall of Fame in March 2007 ahead of WrestleMania 23.
On this week's RAW, Rey Mysterio and Zelina Vega competed in a mixed tag team match against Dominik Mysterio and Women's World Champion Liv Morgan. The match may have ended on a sour note for Rey, but the WWE legend ended up making a record despite facing a defeat. The tag team match was Rey's 33rd in-ring outing on WWE TV since being inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame.
The match also marked Dirty Dom's first win over his father. He pinned the former Royal Rumble winner after a little assistance from Morgan.
The bout itself was more about Dom slowly succumbing to Liv's advances. Just when it looked like he was about to give in to Morgan, Rhea Ripley made her shocking return.
Ripley was last seen on the April 15, 2024, episode of RAW, where she was forced to relinquish the Women's World Title following a backstage attack by Liv Morgan.
Rey Mysterio was not ready to retire following WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2023
During a recent appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Rey Mysterio spoke about his unorthodox Hall of Fame induction. Usually, it is only after a wrestler retires that they join the exclusive club. Rey was confused by the company's decision at first.
The 49-year-old revealed he accepted the offer after WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H assured him that he didn't need to retire to get inducted into the Hall of Fame.
''So when that was brought up to me, 'Rey, we want to induct you into the Hall of Fame' and it was Hunter that mentioned that to me. We were thinking of doing it in LA, it’s so close here to your hometown. And my first response was, 'But I’m not ready to retire!' 'Like, no, no, you don’t have to retire. We just think that it’s the perfect spot to induct you to the Hall of Fame!' I was like, 'Wow!' I really felt it was just just such a cool moment. That was one of my goals, and it was on my bucket list,” Mysterio said.
Rey confirmed to Sportskeeda's Emily Mae earlier this year that he would be happy to end his career in a Hair vs. Mask match against his son. It will be interesting to see how his legendary career pans out in the coming days.
