WWE News: Rey Mysterio pleased with Cruiserweight division getting prominence again

Mysterio also spoke about how the heavyweight division isn’t ruling the business anymore

Former WWE star Rey Mysterio recently spoke out in support of the Cruiserweight division. WWE has been pushing this division a lot more in the past few weeks, with the company having the debut of the Cruiserweights on RAW as well as kicking off the cruiserweight-exclusive show “205 Live” on the WWE Network.

The 41-year-old Mysterio was known for his high-flying ways his time in the WWE and even picked up three WWE World titles before leaving the organisation in 2015.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, the “Master of the 619” praised the fact that the Cruiserweights were getting their share of the limelight.

“I remember Dean [Malenko] pushing for the division’s return for so many years and they never really pursued it, you know? Finally, after all these years it’s out there and that’s the whole evolution of the business.”

Mysterio made his debut on SmackDown in 2002 and took on bigger guys during his 13-year tenure in the WWE. This underdog status certainly helped him win a lot of support from the fans.

The 41-year-old currently stars in the Lucha Underground promotion and also stated that the days of the heavyweight domination are over.

“It might be a bad thing to say but the heavyweights don’t rule this world anymore. It’s all about the style and what you can bring to the table-how exciting you can be.”

The former four-time WWE tag team champion might be onto something, though. The WWE has pushed the Cruiserweights a lot more this year after the success of the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament and even launched another show for the under 205-pounders, 205 Live.

Recent rumours also have suggested that the WWE is not looking to sign any new wrestlers above the 205-pound mark.

The Cruiserweights certainly provide a lot of excitement with their high-flying moves in the ring and that is something the WWE would want to capitalise as they look to bolster their ratings.
