Rey Mysterio publicly unmasks at event; sends emotional message
Rey Mysterio has been less involved on WWE TV. However, the star had an emotional moment at a recent event, where he unmasked and sent a message.
Mysterio has been a big presence in WWE and in wrestling in general for almost four decades. Having started in 1989, he's made his impact felt everywhere he's gone. In WWE, he's a Hall of Famer, and while he still wrestles, his schedule is nowhere near as intense as it used to be. The star has not been as involved lately and has wrestled only twice in August and September combined.
Now, at UFC 306, Rey Mysterio was present in the crowd. The show, also called Noche UFC, took place in the Las Vegas Sphere in Paradise, Nevada. Rey was not the only WWE star present, as Dominik Mysterio was also there.
In a video after the event, it was revealed that Rey Mysterio made a big gesture at the show and unmasked publicly and presented his mask to Dana White, the UFC president. It's very rare that Mysterio is completely unmasked in public, but he chose to go for it. He immediately put on another mask on his face.
He also sent an emotional message to White.
"To show my appreciation, I had this mask made, I wore it tonight."
The mask was a Noche UFC mask.
Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio continued their feud at UFC
The father and son duo were both at the event to watch Noche UFC and were displayed on screen, but the two were not sitting together.
Though away from the WWE screen, the two stars showed their on-screen rivalry by keeping away from each other. They have been involved in a vicious rivalry that has seen both stars come away with wins ever since Dominik turned on his father more than two years ago.
It remains to be seen how it plays out.
