Rey Mysterio reveals astonishing update ahead of 36th year as a pro wrestler

Rey Mysterio remains an active WWE Superstar as he prepares to begin his 36th year as a pro wrestler. The masked high-flyer has continued to wrestle around the world, despite various injuries. Amid rumors of his future, Mysterio just revealed a tremendous health update that bodes well for his longevity with WWE.

The Master of the 619 began wrestling at the age of fourteen in 1989. Trained by his uncle Rey Misterio, the second-generation star made his name in WWE, WCW, ECW, and AAA, among other promotions. Unfortunately, Mysterio's decades of success have brought numerous injuries. The 49-year-old has been on the shelf several times over the years with various leg and knee injuries, concussions, plus injuries to his biceps, triceps, and wrist.

Mysterio previously began stem cell therapy to help with his injuries. It was revealed earlier this year that the eight-time Cruiserweight Champion received stem cell injections to both knees, both shoulders, one wrist, and one ankle. Speaking to Unlikely's Adrian Hernandez at the recent ComplexCon, Rey was asked about the stem cell treatment, and how this has helped him. The veteran grappler revealed that he was now aging a bit slower.

"Incredible. Thanks to stem cells and modern medicine, all the little gadgets that are out there, like cold plunge, infrared sauna, all those things have played a big factor in me being able to continue still. Obviously, stem cells is the majority factor, and that has kind of slowed down the time for me. So, I’m aging a little bit slower than normal," Rey Mysterio said. [H/T - WrestleZone]

Mysterio is a two-time Hall of Famer. AAA inducted the LWO member in 2007, while WWE inducted him in 2023. He was also honored with the 2020 Lucha Libre Award from the Cauliflower Alley Club.

Rey Mysterio receives title match at WWE SmackDown

Rey Mysterio last appeared on WWE TV in the opening match of Monday's RAW. The mixed tag team action saw Rey and Zelina Vega defeat Chad Gable and Ivy Nile of American Made. The match did not air live as RAW was taped on November 11.

Days after the RAW taping, Rey and Dragon Lee received a shot at the WWE World Tag Team Championship. The November 15 SmackDown dark match saw The LWO defeat champions Finn Balor and JD McDonagh, but by DQ due to interference from Carlito.

The Judgment Day retained the tag titles but then had to suffer a trios loss to Lee, Mysterio, and Braun Strowman. This was Strowman's surprise return match from injury.
