Rhea Ripley says WWE star created her Mami nickname (Exclusive)

Rhea Ripley began referring to herself as Mami in 2022 after forming an alliance with Dominik Mysterio as part of The Judgment Day. In an exclusive interview, the former Women's World Champion revealed how Damian Priest played a part in coming up with the name.

After Mysterio joined The Judgment Day, Ripley initially wanted the villainous superstar to call her Papi. The short-lived nickname was a reference to the late WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero, who used to wear an "I'm your Papi" shirt.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, Ripley recalled how Priest suggested she use the name Mami instead:

"I'm 27 now, I know who I am. The whole Mami persona, it's who I am. The Mami name might have came from Damian Priest because I wore a 'I'm your Papi' shirt and I was trying to run with the Papi thing and they were like, 'Maybe not.' He was like, 'You're Mami. Just be Mami.' I was like, 'You know what, you were right. I am Mami.'" [1:16 – 1:35]

The storyline has largely revolved around Morgan stealing Mysterio away from Ripley. On August 3, the Women's World Champion received help from Mysterio to defeat her long-term rival at SummerSlam.

World Heavyweight Champion Gunther vs. Randy Orton and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens have also been announced for Bash in Berlin. Elsewhere on the card, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will go one-on-one again in a Strap match.
