Ricochet doomed to be a "featured babyface" in WWE despite great paycheck, feels wrestling veteran

WWE star Ricochet may be leaving the company soon. Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette commented recently on the star's current status and possible future moves.

The star reportedly recently informed WWE officials that he would not renew his contract after it expires this year. Over the last few weeks, the star has been getting destroyed by Bron Breakker on WWE RAW. This past Monday, Bron demolished The One and Only in the parking lot and he had to be stretchered away to a medical facility.

During a recent episode of the Jim Cornette Experience, the veteran mentioned that Ricochet would at best be a mid-card babyface in WWE. He explained that the high flyer would never be their top champion. But he felt it would be better for the star if he stuck around and made more money before going into the independent scene.

"Ricochet is never gonna be the WWE Champion, right? I'm sorry but just realistically, not even one of the two of them. He's gonna be a featured babyface, might be hard to make him a heel. But he'll be kind of a featured babyface on the card, not a main event level guy usually, or possibly at all. Their starting salaries over there, and he's I'm sure more than starting, are quite lovely. And his wife works there, and it's the number one company and it's not going anywhere. He's 35 and if he gets another three year contract, then he's 38. Then he can go do some independents and he's made a nice income." [From 1:00 - 1:56]

Cornette spoke about Ricochet's prospects outside WWE

During the same conversation, Cornette noted that the star could appear in AEW. However, the veteran felt that he would never be a huge star in that company.

"He could be over in AEW where he might even get more money out of Tony because 'Tony!' But even huge stars that go there are nullified. So, if he went there, it's not like he can make himself a star in AEW because nobody else has been able to, except for MJF." [From 2:05 - 2:28]

One of the current criticisms of the Jacksonville-based promotion by its fans has been its ability to manage the huge roster of stars it has signed on, with many supposedly floundering without proper storylines. Cornette felt that erratic booking in AEW didn't allow stars to break out as major players and Ricochet could suffer the same fate as previous stars who jumped ship before.
