Roman Reigns confirms major character change following WWE return at SummerSlam
Roman Reigns finally made his much-awaited return at WWE SummerSlam as he took out Solo Sikoa during his match against Cody Rhodes. Following the incident, The Head of the Table seemingly confirmed a major character change while making his way to the back.
Reigns had been away from WWE programming since losing to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. Solo Sikoa took over The Bloodline in Roman's absence and soon proclaimed himself as The Tribal Chief. Later he also said if Reigns had any problem with him, he could come and find him.
Unfortunately for Solo, his wish came true at SummerSlam last night as Roman Reigns made his much-vaunted return during The Bloodline Rules Match between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa. The Head of the Table laid out Solo with a Superman Punch and Spear, helping Cody Rhodes retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
However, another sequence that caught the fans' attention was Roman high-fiving multiple fans on his way to the back which seemingly confirms that the Original Tribal Chief is now a babyface after nearly four years.
Roman Reigns turned heel at WWE SummerSlam 2020
Vince McMahon and the older regime tried to push Roman Reigns as the top babyface following The Shield's implosion. However, the Samoan failed to connect with the audience as a positive character. After years of disappointing stints as a babyface, Reigns finally turned heel at SummerSlam 2020 following which he aligned with Paul Heyman.
Roman went on to achieve major success after embracing his villainous side, becoming the longest-reigning world champion of the modern era. After four years of amazing character work, The Head of the Table appears to have returned as a babyface, this time with almost every fan and critic backing him.
Reigns is expected to be involved in a lengthy feud with the new Bloodline moving forward. While it has not been announced yet, The Original Tribal Chief is likely to be present on SmackDown this week. His name was pulled from the Draft earlier this year and he is likely free to show up on either brand.
