Roman Reigns talks about the character of The Tribal Chief
It's safe to say that The Tribal Chief is the greatest gimmick of Reigns' illustrious career so far. It will also go down in pro wrestling history as one of the most impactful gimmicks ever.
Two years ago, Reigns had a chat with ESPN and spoke in detail about the character of The Tribal Chief:
"It has to be groundbreaking. It has to be history-making. I just kept going back to 'power,' I just want to be viewed as the most powerful superstar of all time, when it comes to WWE and sports entertainment. I just really wanted to convey this portrait of strength. Almost like a Mafia-style power. Not only is it respect, but they fear me."
Back in the day, Reigns donned the gimmick of The Big Dog, a character hated by a significant portion of the WWE Universe. Fans weren't happy with Vince McMahon shoving him down their throats, and he used to receive loud boos regularly.
Reigns turned heel in 2020 during his SummerSlam return, which turned out to be a career-defining moment for him. Today, he is the biggest superstar in pro wrestling.
