Roman Reigns wrestled 52 WWE matches last year; his 2023 match count isn't even close

Roman Reigns' WWE schedule has taken a big hit this year.

The Tribal Chief has been the promotion's biggest villain for more than three years at this point. He has now turned into a special attraction and only makes occasional appearances on WWE TV.

An insane stat involving Roman Reigns was recently pointed out on Twitter. He wrestled 52 matches in 2022, which comes down to one match every week. This year, though, Reigns has wrestled a surprising 11 matches, averaging almost one every month.

Roman Reigns has opened up about his reduced schedule

Over the years, many fans have criticized Reigns for his reduced WWE schedule. The Tribal Chief has himself addressed the same in past interviews.

Last year, he appeared on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast. Here's what he said about his part-time WWE schedule:

"When you've been on the road for 10 years straight, and someone who has been at the highest level, the main-event level, I ran a full schedule for a long time. For me, it was really just trying to balance everything. And as someone who has five children, we're at a very critical portion of their lives, where they're so young... For me, it was extremely important that I can build my fatherhood as the priority, and the No. 1 hat that I wear. And WWE, Vince [McMahon], everybody was really good about accommodating that and making sure to keep me in the WWE family." [H/T WrestlingInc]

Reigns recently returned for another big title defense in Saudi Arabia. At Crown Jewel 2023, he defeated the fan-favorite LA Knight to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
