Ron Simmons is a big fan of current WWE star (Exclusive)
Ron Simmons, aka Faarooq, wrestled his last WWE match in 2007 after two decades in the wrestling business. The 2012 WWE Hall of Fame inductee recently opened up about the current product, including AJ Styles' in-ring performances.
Styles is widely viewed as one of the world's most talented wrestlers. The 47-year-old has won several titles since joining WWE in 2016, most notably the WWE Championship twice.
In an exclusive interview, Simmons told Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter he only watches wrestling sporadically these days:
"After you play ball or you've been in a sport so long, you still love it but you take a little bit of a break from it, but I still tune in because it's in my blood." [0:33 – 0:44]
Asked to name a current wrestler he likes, Ron Simmons explained why Styles stands out so much:
"I'm old school, that'll never get out of me, so I love old style. I love everything about the nostalgia of wrestling, what I came up being a part of. So, you know, I like to see guys mix a little bit of the new with old. I like to watch AJ Styles wrestle, you know what I mean?" [0:53 – 1:08]

Key reason why Ron Simmons is a fan of AJ Styles
While some WWE stars are better wrestlers than entertainers, Ron Simmons thinks AJ Styles has mastered the art of both.
The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion also thinks Styles knows exactly when to perform the right moves during his matches:
"He knows how to blend it, man," Simmons added. "Still keeping some storyline, knowing when to implement certain moves, all that. So, you know, yeah, things like that." [1:12 – 1:20]
Styles recently unsuccessfully challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash France and Clash at the Castle. In his latest match, The Phenomenal One defeated Naomichi Marufuji at a NOAH event in Tokyo, Japan, on July 13.
