Sami Zayn loses to top WWE champion in Canada after SmackDown goes off the air
Sami Zayn wore the jersey of NHL team Edmonton Oilers as he came out to wrestle in front of his home country fans. After WWE SmackDown went off the air in the second dark match, he ended up losing to a familiar foe.
There were two dark matches advertised for SmackDown on September 6, 2024. It marked the final broadcast of the blue brand on FOX and it ended with a bang. While Kofi Kingston dispatched Dominik Mysterio in the first dark match of the night, Sami Zayn would come out for the main event. However, he was ultimately unsuccessful in the main event, losing to Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker once again.
Still, Sami seemed to have a moment to enjoy with his home country fans. Edmonton, of course, is thousands of miles away from his hometown of Montreal, which just gives you an idea of how big Canada is as a country.
Kevin Owens also came out in the end so it seems like fans in Edmonton got a bit of a happy ending, even if their home country hero Sami Zayn did not end up winning the Intercontinental Championship.
However, after the match, The Underdog from the Underground had a wholesome moment with Kevin Owens.
It is clear from the fallout episode of RAW after Bash in Berlin 2024 that Sami is targeting Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship.
