"Setting him up for failure" - Wrestling veteran on why WWE might be punishing Damian Priest (Exclusive)

Is Damian Priest in some sort of trouble? According to wrestling veteran Vince Russo, WWE could be punishing The Punisher of The Judgment Day for a mistake made earlier this month.

On the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing with Russo, Vince Russo was of the firm opinion that Damian Priest is being set up for failure. He thinks that WWE will pull the old backstage politics card where they put Priest in an odd position and blame him for not being able to get over.

Vince Russo said that despite Vince McMahon being gone, some of the older names in the back can be just as bad as him. He explained that Damian Priest is being set up for failure:

"Bro, I was with WWE, I know the system, I know how things work. I don't care what anybody says - Okay, Vince [McMahon] isn't there anymore. You got [Bruce] Prichard, you got [Paul] Heyman, you got Michael Hayes bro, who are just as [bad] as Vince. I swear to god, this reeks to me of, to me, setting up Damian Priest for failure. The old 'we tried, you just didn't get over'. Did it have anything to do with Gunther setting him up as a babyface and two seconds later he's wrestling a babyface? Does that have anything to do with anything?"

According to Russo, Priest comes off as a very nice person and the botched kick-out spot at Money in the Bank is the reason why he's being punished:

"I swear to god, bro. In my heart of hearts, I feel that they are setting this guy up. First of all, we know one thing. I'm a very good character, I can tell you this. I've never met Damian Priest in my life. I can tell you - he's a good guy. He's a straight-up guy, if he's from New York, bro, he's an honest guy. If he's a nice guy, he's playing by the rules, playing by the book. I'm looking at, 'Is this because of the botched spot? Is this some form of a punishement bro because the guy didn't kick out?' I'm telling you, bro, I feel in my gut, that they're setting this guy up for failure." [From 04:42 to 06:22]

WWE is releasing a "24" special about Damian Priest

There was a lot of speculation about WWE's announcement for a show involving the World Heavyweight Champion. Some speculated that it was a stand-up show while others thought it was a talk show.

Damian Priest confirmed that the show on August 2nd is for the premiere screening of a WWE:24 documentary centered around him and that he will be holding a Q & A Session with Rhea Ripley and a surprise guest.

There's no word on who that surprise guest will be but it's going to be exciting. Priest has been getting over with the crowd with every passing week. There's always been a sense of respect that fans have had for the World Heavyweight Champion.
