WWE News: Shad Gaspard accuses WWE of lack of racial diversity at WrestleMania 33

JTG, John Cena and Shad Gaspard (extreme right) were supposed to form a stable a few years back.

What’s the story?

Shad Gaspard lashed out at the WWE, accusing the company of an alleged lack of African-American athletes at WrestleMania 33.

The former WWE Superstar threw shade at his former employers in his posts on social media, pointing out that the company only had one female and no male African-American performers at their biggest annual show.

In case you didn’t know...

Shad Javier Chittick Gaspard is best known for his run in WWE as one-half of the tag team Cryme Tyme, alongside JTG. After making his last appearance for the company back in 2010, the 36-year old returned to the independent circuit in 2012.

The heart of the matter:

Gaspard lashed out at the WWE for their alleged lack of racial diversity at WrestleMania which, in turn, drew a sharp reaction from the WWE Universe, with many of them pointing out the fact that the show featured Naomi, as well as Sasha Banks.

Naomi, the WWE’s top African-American Superstar - had made a triumphant return to the ring, winning the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship in her hometown of Orlando, Florida.

Not to be outdone, Gaspard reverted back with another tweet-

It appears that Shad Gaspard has really taken the issue to heart.

What’s next?

Shad Gaspard has been seen from time to time on the indie circuit and also moonlights as a professional bodybuilder and model.

Author’s take:

WrestleMania 33 was awesome and as far as Shad Gaspard’s comments are concerned, they seem nothing more than mere shade being thrown by a disgruntled former employee at the WWE.

Although the WWE does currently have a dearth of African-American performers as compared to the days when say Booker T, The Rock and Ron Simmons were at the top of their game, Gaspard’s claim falls flat on its face given the fact that the penultimate bout of the evening saw a black athlete in Naomi get a huge pop from her hometown crowd in her title-winning performance.

All Gaspard has to do is Feel the Glow!
