Shawn Michaels has massive praise for rising WWE Superstar
Shawn Michaels is one of WWE's biggest Hall of Famers. The Showstopper remains a significant part of the company today as Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, who also oversees the NXT brand. He has just publicly praised one superstar with bold predictions for the future.
Trick Williams briefly trained at the CZW Academy and Rikishi's Knox Pro Academy and attended the Philadelphia Eagles NFL tryout in 2018. He then signed a WWE developmental contract in February 2021 and debuted in the fall of that same year. Trick has had strong supporters within WWE for a while now, including The Icon - Shawn Michaels.
Michaels was enthusiastic about Trick's first run with the NXT Championship but he is even more excited to watch the 30-year-old chase Ethan Page for the gold. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, The Heartbreak Kid gave immense praise to Williams and predicted a very bright future for the upcoming star.
"Trick has an incredibly bright future. He’s amazing to work with on a day-to-day basis. He’s so receptive. He’s one of the hottest things in the business as a whole, but he’s still a humble kid working and digging to get better every day. I really respect that," Shawn Michaels said.
It was reiterated how Michaels is extremely high on Williams. He commented on the former NXT North American Champion potentially going to the main roster.
"I read on social media that he’s already main-roster ready. I don’t think that’s the goal for Trick. He doesn’t want to just go and exist on the main roster - he wants to go there and thrive as a main player. I appreciate his maturity and wisdom. He’s a joy to come work with, and I’m excited to see what he does next," Shawn Michaels said. [H/T - SI]
The Anointed One won the NXT Championship from Ilja Dragunov in April. The reign ended 74 days later at Heatwave on July 7. Trick was dethroned by Ethan Page in a Fatal Four-Way that also included Shawn Spears and Je'Von Evans.
Trick Williams set for WWE NXT rematch build
Trick Williams is focused on regaining the NXT Championship ahead of The Great American Bash. Two days after losing the title at Heatwave, Williams teamed with Joe Hendry on NXT to defeat Ethan Page and Shawn Spears.
The Anointed One is being teased for a showdown with Page on this week's show. Williams did not appear live last week, but he spoke with former friend and rival Ilja Dragunov in a pre-taped segment. While he did declare he wanted a rematch, the 30-year-old had little luck in getting advice from Dragunov and Pete Dunne.
Trick's return for Tuesday is expected to be confirmed soon. Ahead of major brand changes, WWE has officially announced the following for the show: Oro Mensah vs. Ashante "Thee" Adonis, Eddy Thorpe vs. Lexis King, Brooks Jensen vs. Josh Briggs in a No DQ match.
