“She had a crush on anybody” - WWE veteran jokes about major Mae Young revelation (Exclusive)

The WWE Attitude Era is widely regarded as one of the most controversial periods in pro wrestling history. Mae Young was involved in many of these memorable moments. There have been few behind-the-scenes stories about Young, but a fellow WWE Hall of Famer just had a few laughs while recalling their past.

The Matriarch of the Mat joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 1999. The women's wrestling pioneer began her journey in 1939 and was already a legend when she arrived in the Stamford-based promotion as a comedic character. One of the more outlandish storylines of all time centered around a romantic relationship between then-76-year-old Young and then-28-year-old Mark Henry. The program infamously ended with Young giving birth to a bloody rubber hand.

Gerald Brisco was one of the talents booked for a role in the segment that featured the birth of a hand during RAW on February 28, 2000. Speaking on the premiere episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's "What Were They Thinking with JBL & Brisco" series, one-half of The Stooges recalled his reaction when Vince Russo told him he was being used.

"I couldn't figure out why I'm in a Mark Henry and Mae Young segment. I know Mae had a crush on me [laughs] because we're both from Oklahoma, we're both beautiful people," Gerald Brisco joked. [From 5:15 to 5:24]

Apparently surprised, host Joe Lowry interrupted and asked Brisco to clarify: Mae Young had a crush on Gerald Brisco? The Oklahoma Chickasaw then responded with a scoop.

"Of course, you're getting a scoop right there. I mean, she had a crush on anybody, she probably had a crush on Big John Layfield there [laughs]," Gerald Brisco said. [From 5:28 to 5:38]

Layfield did not confirm or deny Brisco's speculation, but he did laugh at the discussion on Young's flirtatious antics. The former NWA United States Women's Champion passed away on January 14, 2014, at the age of 90.

JBL reunites with former WWE ally and rival

John Bradshaw Layfield is reinventing himself in 2024 by making appearances for non-WWE promotions. He appeared at TNA Victory Road on Friday for another major happening.

JBL reunited with Sho Funaki at the TNA pay-per-view on Friday night. Funaki still does Japanese commentary for WWE but was backstage visiting at Victory Road. JBL took to X to respond to Funaki's photo of the two after his earlier appearance with another major name.

"With Smackdown #1 announcer. I first met Mr Funaki in early 1990s-when he was just a young guy working at Animal Hamuguchi’s gym in Tokyo. Love Mr Funaki! #GodblessTexas," JBL wrote.

Layfield then appeared at MLW's TV tapings on Saturday night. Friday's Victory Road surprise was JBL's second TNA appearance this year.
