Sheamus fires shot at former champion ahead of WWE RAW return

Last week on Monday Night RAW, Sheamus made a noteworthy comeback to WWE after being out of action for almost a year. The Celtic Warrior last competed against Adam "Edge" Copeland on SmackDown in August 2023.

The Rated-R Superstar has since moved to AEW. CM Punk made a miraculous comeback. Roman Reigns and Gunther are no longer champions. Speaking of The Ring General, it appears the Irishman still has beef with the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion.

Ahead of Gunther's first appearance on RAW tonight after dropping the belt to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL, Sheamus reacted to his update on social media. The Austrian called himself "General of the Ring" on X. The Celtic Warrior does not agree with the sentiment:

"Who?" Sheamus asked Gunther.

The annual Draft is a few weeks away, but WWE did not waste any time with Sheamus. The Irish-born wrestler has seemingly joined the flagship show. Interestingly, the commentary team pointed to how the red brand's Intercontinental Championship is the one title that has eluded The Celtic Warrior throughout his career.

Does Sheamus have issues with the WWE star that is beyond the IC Championship?

Sheamus consistently targeted Gunther on social media in the last year, despite getting multiple opportunities to face The Ring General. After their feud had a satisfying conclusion in late 2022, the former WWE Champion got another opportunity at WrestleMania 39, in a match that also featured Drew McIntyre.

When asked on the Battleground Podcast about potentially facing Sheamus again ahead of this year's Showcase of The Immortals, the Austrian was not against it, albeit did not care much for it either:

"I’m definitely ready, but where he is right now, that’s where I like him the most — away. It’s a good place where he is, but we’ll see what happens," said Gunther.

Arguably the best feud of Sheamus' career in the last decade was against The Ring General according to many fans. This sentiment especially rings true since his partnership with Cesaro as The Bar ended and the Irish star resumed his singles run in WWE.

The Celtic Warrior appears to have some unresolved issues with The Ring General. Meanwhile, the Intercontinental Championship is currently in possession of Sami Zayn, who has kickstarted a program with Chad Gable.
